Qld Government accused of 'filthy, rotten deal' over North Stradbroke sand mining

The Queensland Opposition has accused the State Government of doing a "dirty deal" over sand mining on North Stradbroke Island off Brisbane.
The ABC reported last night that leases at the Enterprise Mine may be extended until 2035.
Opposition spokeswoman Jo-Ann Miller has told a budget estimates hearing the Government has met with the mining company Sibelco eight times in eight weeks, but has only met native title holders once.
Ms Miller says Sibelco also funded a mail-out in the Ashgrove electorate during the 2012 election campaign.
"This is an extraordinary level of access," she said.
"It's a filthy, dirty, rotten deal that's going down in your government, isn't it?"
However, Mines Minister Andrew Cripps strongly denies the claims.
"There is nothing untoward about the Government's intentions in relation to its plans for the continuation of sand mining activities on North Stradbroke Island, to provide a smoother transition away from this activity," he said.
